2014 Audi A3 e-tron: Audi says the
A3 is good for an equivalent of 188 mpg. The Volt has a combined 98
mpg-e. Audi says its car can travel up to 31 miles in all-electric mode
at speeds up to 80 mph versus the Volt’s 35 to 40 miles. An aggressive
regenerative braking mode or a gliding mode that will disconnect the
electric motors for less friction can be selected.
But where the A3 e-tron literally and figuratively pulls away from the Volt is power 150 horsepower from a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine and another 54 horses from an electric motor, routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. That helps it hit 60 mph in 7.6 seconds on the way up to a 138 mph. The Volt makes only 140 horsepower total and can’t begin to match those numbers.
