2015 VW Golf 7 R 400

Golf 7 R 400 concept from the recent 2014 Beijing Auto Show has been confirmed for production, according to VW R&D chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser. Speaking with Car and Driver, Neusser revealed the good news but didn’t say whether the production version would be offered in the U.S. market.

The Golf 7 R 400 concept is based on the latest 2015 Golf R hot hatch and was built to demonstrate the performance capabilities of the latest Golf. It features the same EA888 engine found in the Golf R, a turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter four.

In the Golf 7 R 400 the engine delivers 290 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, but for the Golf R 400 concept output was dialed up to 395 hp (400 horsepower in metric figures) and 332 lb-ft of torque. Incredibly, the Golf R 400’s version of the engine only received some mild revisions to handle higher boost pressure from its turbocharger, meaning we could see its performance figures maintained for production.

Beijing show was a second Golf concept called the Golf Edition. It was built to commemorate the popular hatchback’s 40th anniversary this year and came with a number of premium features that are likely to be offered in the Chinese market. VW says the concept was developed especially for China. Some of the premium features were an exclusive pearl white paint scheme, 19-inch alloys, two-tone leather trim with a diamond pattern, real wood trim and a piano finish on some of the dash. Source

2015 Volkswagen Touareg

Engineers typically use these roads for validation of transmission and braking systems, which one would expect this early in the car’s development. As this is only a mid-cycle update (the second-generation Touareg has been on sale since 2011), the visual changes to the car will be modest. Camouflage gear on the front and rear sections of this prototype suggest we’re likely to see some new bumpers, a revised grille and possibly some changes to the lights. Inside, Volkswagen is expected to update the infotainment system by installing its latest modular unit.

The system is based around a capacitive touch-screen mounted in the dash that will allow the driver to control most of the vehicle functions via the screen, or by using voice or steering wheel controls. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, we could also see output of some of the Touareg’s engines increased for the 2015 model year. The 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 in the TDI model could see its current 225-horsepower rating boosted to somewhere around 260 horsepower and overseas we could see a four-cylinder engine added to the lineup. 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTD

2015 Volkswagen Golf GTD is equipped like a GTI in almost every respect. That means a retuned suspension that sits a little over half an inch lower than a standard Golf, along with a variable steering ratio and an electronic limited-slip differential. The GTD also offers a three-mode Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system that adjusts the dampers to "Comfort," "Normal" and "Sport" modes. Volkswagen says each of three modes has been calibrated specifically for the GTD, noting that even the softest "Comfort" setting is still more aggressive than the standard Golf setup.

Even with that in mind, the GTD isn't exactly pulled taut over its optional 18-inch wheels. Comfort mode is still soft enough to satisfy drivers coming out of a Camry, while even the stiffest "Sport" mode setting is still far from brittle. The changes are noticeable if you fling the GTD around a corner with any conviction, but we suspect that leaving the DCC system off the option sheet won't result in any serious loss of capability or comfort. 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI: 2015 Volkswagen Golf is lighter, bigger, safer, and more fuel efficient than the version it replaces. All three versions of the new golf, the entry-level 1.4-liter gasoline engine, the 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel, and the GTI, will be on display and will be ready for sale during the first half of 2014. Also, the Golf will be the first Volkswagen vehicle to use the company’s new “MQB” components matrix that offers new safety features and technology, including collision avoidance, lane departure systems, and updated infotainment options.

Coming standard for the first time on a Volkswagen is the multi-collision brake system, along with a proactive passenger protection system. Designers of the Golf have given the vehicle a new edge, with the goal of making it more independent, sophisticated, and durable than other compact cars. The front wheels have been moved 43 millimeters forward, making the front look shorter. Along with these changes, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf has maintained its signature design features. 2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI

2013 Volkswagen Golf GTI: is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 220 hp in the regular version or 230 hp in the “Performance” version, both with 350 Nm of torque and both having a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed “DSG” automanual gearboxes. It is the first time when the Golf GTI is offered in two variants. The base version weighs in at 1,351 kg, a fair bit lighter than the Ford Focus ST. The regular GTI does the 0-100 kph run in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 246 kph, while the Performance model does it in 6.4 seconds and maxes out at 250 kph.

The cars are supposedly rated at between 6.0 litres/100 km and 6.5 litres/100 km in fuel consumption. The GTI rides on 17-inch wheels with 225/45 tyres and lower suspension. It features a body kit with a built-in rear diffuser and wider side sills. For brakes, the standard GTI has 314mm ventilated front discs and 300mm solid discs, while the Performance model has ventilated discs on all wheels, 342mm discs at the front and 310mm at the rear. Inside it gets sportier seats, steering wheel and pedals.

2012 Volkswagen Up

2012 Volkswagen Up: The original Up! concept followed the Beetle's formula with a rear-mounted boxer engine, the production Up!'s 1.0-liter I-3 is mounted Up!front, driving the front wheels. The little naturally aspirated gasoline three-pot produces 74 hp and 70 lb-ft of torque. Although an automated manual transmission is available, our tester's engine was hooked Up! to a five-speed manual. When we took the VW Up! out for testing, its lack of power didn't tear Up! the track. The Up! accelerates Up! to 60 mph from a standstill in 12.6 seconds.

 

The quarter mile takes just about forever to complete, with the Up! needing 19.2 seconds to wind Up! to 74.2 mph. The Up!'s acceleration runs were severely hampered by the overly intrusive traction and stability control systems (does a car with 74 hp even need traction control?) as well as the lack of power. The figure eight was a bit more fun than straight-line acceleration. Driving the Up! around the figure eight was less about accelerating into the straights and more about saving Up! momentum so it could be carried through the corners.

2012 Volkswagen Amarok TDI420

2012 Volkswagen Amarok TDI420: is a new flagship of the company that will come with the new automatic transmission. The Amarok TDI420 will be powered by a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The engine of the 2012 Volkswagen Amarok TDI420 is capable of generating output at 132 kW and 420 Nm of torque with which the new eight-speed auto transmission is combined. 

It is 12 kW more power and 20 Nm more torque than the previous engine in the Current Amarok range with the same capacity. In addition, the new 2.0-Liter engine also offers an increased towing capacity. It is 375 kg (in 3175 kg) more than the current configuration (in 2800 kg). The new eight-speed automatic transmission comes as a complement to the existing six-speed manual transmission.

2012 Volkswagen Scirocco GTS: One such German automaker taking advantage of the show is Volkswagen with this very cool Scirocco GTS. This special edition is based on the 2.0 TSI 210 HP version and adds some pretty impressive features. The Scirocco GTS features a very cool white exterior paint finish combined with black-and red "go faster" strips, red exterior mirrors, a new set of 18-inch "Thunder" wheels, and a new rear spoiler and diffuser similar to the ones seen on the Scirocco R. 

Volkswagen is now continuing this tradition with the debut of the new GTS, delivering up to 155 kW / 210 hp. Catching the eye immediately are the coloured stripes on the bonnet, the roof complete with rear spoiler and the tailgate, designed in the style of racing cars of the 70s and 80s. Red brake calipers, custom-designed front and rear bumpers, exposed side sills, body-coloured side trim, wing mirrors colour coordinated with the stripes, burnished 18-inch ‘Thunder’ alloy wheels with black trim, a sporty diffuser and GTS badges on the front wings finish off the sporty exterior to perfection.

Volkswagen Polo: The fifth-gen VW hatch beat out some stiff competition from the Citroen C3 Picaso, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Opel/Vauxhall Astra, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Yeti and Toyota iQ. It was a close race, the Toyota coming in a narrow second with 337 points to the Polo's 347. The Astra took third place by a wide margin at 221 points.

It's the first time a Volkswagen has won the award in some 17 years and only the second time Wolfsburg's taken the prize home in the forty-five years since the jury first sat. Sister company Audi has also won the award twice (for the 1973 Audi 80 and 1983 Audi 100), and Porsche once (for the 1978 Porsche 928).

2010 Volkswagen Golf R

Volkswagen Golf R replaces the Golf V R32 as the new flagship model. The engine of the Golf R has been downsized from a 3.2 litre V6 to a 2.0 litre turbo four. The Golf R’s engine is virtually identical to that used by the Audi S3, and produces a total of 188kW of power and 330Nm of torque. All 330Nm of torque is available between 2400rpm and 5200rpm, giving the Golf R excellent tractability across much of the rev range.

Volkswagen claims the Golf R will consume an average of 8.7 litres per 100km, whether fitted with the manual or automatic gearbox. Features of this car inlclude bi-xenon headlamps, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass, an anti-theft alarm and touchscreen audio system with in-dash CD stacker. Cruise control, a trip computer, rain-sensing wipers and dusk-sensing headlamps are also standard.A five-door Golf R with DSG gearbox retails for $54,490 before on-road costs and is the most expensive configuration in the range. Leather upholstery costs $3300, an electric driver’s seat comes in at $600 and the RCD510 sat-nav system will set you back $2500 (add another $1000 if you want the 8-speaker Dynaudio stereo).
